I am trying hard to build a small book, music, and counselling business around StevenColborne.com.
After enthusiastically redesigning my blog this week and rebuilding my website seven times in recent months, I am still yet to make a sale of Reflections, which God says is the best book ever written. And this, while making it available on a pay as you wish basis!
I have contacted around twenty media outlets who offer press release distribution and have not had a positive response from any of them.
I have also been emailing old friends, acquaintances, and colleagues, pleading for their support, but no one seems interested in helping me.
I was extremely excited to register with NewsByWire, a press release service which appeared to have a very professional offering. But they reject submissions about religion, however newsworthy the story. I had been so excited about the possibility of having my carefully-written press release published and felt utterly dismayed by their rejection.
I wrote:
May I ask the honest reason why you would not want to publish a story about what God tells me is the best book ever written? The book is written to appeal to anyone with a genuine interest in growing in their relationship with God, saving the planet from imminent destruction, and finding true peace and fulfillment. Is there no one on your database that fits this criteria?
The line I wrote about the planet facing imminent destruction is a reference to a statement in the Book of Mercy. Nearly all of my written work is aimed at helping people to draw closer to God and understand Him better. When we hold God in awe and honour Him rightly, He will bless us, or at least it seems so to me.
NewsByWire’s response:
As mentioned, we don’t have journalists / media outlets on our database for a number of topic.
In addition, we have a deluge of press releases relating to independent publishing and as such have made the decision not to publish press releases on this topic (some occasionally slip through if we are not able to verify).
This doesn’t even make logical sense.
So another day working hard with zero return on my time investment.
But I’m thankful for the blessings of today and tomorrow is another day.
If people would take the time to read Reflections I believe it would benefit them greatly. They would find it to be insightful, illuminating and enjoyable. But ultimately, all you can do is make the argument. You can plant a seed, but only God can provide the rain water.
God does whatever He will.
