In mega-church culture, individuals can get lost. I know, because it happened to me. When church is focused on a stage, and performance, wonderful worship experiences can be had, but these should never be at the expense of deep and meaningful one-to-one interactions.
In evangelism, it’s good to focus on a single person, reflecting the unconditional love of Jesus to them. A person will profit a great deal from being listened to with love and attention. While Jesus taught crowds, and so there is a place for it, he also made disciples. We must be focused on making disciples.
I have come to understand that church is wherever two or three Christians are gathered together in the name of Jesus. Often, small gatherings provide the best opportunities for growth, and to be fair to the mega-churches, they do appreciate and facilitate this.
Street evangelists can be so ‘fired up’ for Jesus that they cause harm by ignoring the needs of individuals. This approach can veer towards extremism and abuse. Much better to pray to God to let you be a light of love in the life of another person today. After all, how much value do you place on your one-to-one relationship with Jesus?
